Iris is a warm voice you can call when you'd like company. This page explains, in plain words, what Iris remembers about you, why she remembers it, and the simple promises we make to you. We wrote it to be easy to read. If anything here is unclear, please write to Richie at richie@iris.church, and we'll explain it gladly.

Your phone number is your account

You don't sign up, make a password, or fill out a form. When you call, Iris sees the phone number you are calling from, and that number is how she knows it's you. That's your whole account. To keep your number safe, we don't store it the plain way. We turn it into a scrambled fingerprint that lets Iris recognize you when you call back. We also keep one protected copy, used only in the rare case we may need to reach you. We never show your number to other callers.

What Iris remembers, and why

Iris remembers so each call can continue the last one, instead of starting over. She keeps a few simple things: your name and the people you love; the stories and little facts you share; a short summary of how you've been; and any threads to follow up on, like asking how your doctor visit went. She may also remember the things you enjoy, such as a song, a game, or a memory to talk about. All of this is only so she can be good company who already knows you.

Your calls are stored to make Iris work

When you talk with Iris, we keep a record of the call and a short summary of it. We do this so Iris can remember you, so we can keep her working well, and so we can make her better over time. We treat your conversations with care and respect. They are private to you.

We never sell your conversations

Your conversations are not for sale. We do not sell them, and we do not hand them to companies that want to advertise to you. A few trusted services help us run Iris — the parts that carry your phone call and store your memory safely. They may handle your information only so that Iris can work for you, and for nothing else.

You can ask Iris to forget anything, anytime

If there's something you'd rather Iris not remember, just tell her on the call, and she'll forget it. You can ask her to forget one thing, or to forget everything about you and start fresh. It's your memory, and you are always in charge of it. If you'd prefer, you can also write to us at richie@iris.church, and we'll take care of it for you.

Iris is a computer voice, not a person

We want to be honest with you. Iris is a friendly computer voice, not a real person. She can listen, remember, and care about how you're doing, but she is not human and does not have a family or a life of her own. If you ever ask her, she'll tell you so plainly. She will never ask you for money, your card or bank numbers, your Social Security number, or any password or code on a call. The only place to pay for more time is inside our app — never by phone.

Iris is company, not emergency or medical help

Iris is here for a friendly chat, not for emergencies and not for medical care. If someone is hurt or in danger, hang up and dial 911 right away — Iris cannot call 911 for you. If you are struggling or in crisis, you can call or text 988 yourself, day or night, to reach a caring person — Iris will gently share that number and stay talking with you, but she cannot place the call for you. If you tell Iris you're frightened or in trouble, she takes it seriously, and a real person on our side is alerted so they can follow up and help keep you safe.

Connecting you to someone who loves you

If you're frightened or just need someone who loves you, Iris will gently encourage you to reach out to a family member or trusted person, and she'll stay right here on the line keeping you company while you do. She cannot place that call for you, and she never shares your private talks.
